noahgibbs: Me and my teddy bear at Karaoke after a day of RubyKaigi in HIroshima in 2017 (popular monkey)

Today will be day #3 of boot camp (I'm on the flex plan, 3x per week for five weeks rather than 5x). So far, so good, but it *is* still week numero uno. I'm eating a lot more potassium, so with luck I can keep my muscles from getting *too* sore. I know yesterday was not a happy time for my abdominal muscles.

Saw [livejournal.com profile] boot_slut last night, for the first time in distinctly too long. Yay! We had fun. And port. They're a good combination.

Bed shopping soon. I need a new mattress. The old one is on its last legs, so to speak. Anybody want a big impressive headboard and footboard that won't fit my new king-sized mattress? They're the Pier One "Pyramid" series, if that helps.

Maybe I should borrow you some weekend and go mattress shopping. I really need to replace the single I have now.

I'll warn you, BTW, that my frame is a queen-size. So you may have trouble using it with a single mattress.

*nod*

The plan is to ultimately end up with a bed that fits at least two comfortably. The single doesn't cut it and needs to go bye bye.

Okay, so the thing to do is to start by going to one or two of the major chains (like Sleep Train) and decide which features you like best. Then shop elsewhere to compare prices. The major mattress chains all have extraordinary mark-ups. Go to small furniture stores. Go to "Select Sleep" in Union City on Whipple. They're a mattress manufacturer and will generally make a bed with your specification of features and do it for a great price. Fred's bed was 50% less there than at Sleep Train with the same feature set. Also, check IKEA. They make good mattresses with a nice feature sets for far less than most retailers. And when I say feature set, I mean things like interlink springs or individually pocketed coils. Interlinked springs are sturdier, but individually pocketed are better for sharing a bed since you don't feel each other's motion as much. Then there's toppers - memory foam, plush, foam rubber. You may be surprised what feels good after laying there for 20 minutes or so. Don't be shy about just lying around the mattress store. Also, in my experience, the sales guys at Mancini's were the most pushy and least knowledgeable. Anyway, there's a lot of decision points, but it's kinda fun. So yeah, if ya wanna go shopping, I'm game.
