It's been a mixed weekend.

Had a party on Friday. It was good. Didn't get everybody I'd hoped for, but I got folks I didn't expect. Excellent port was had by most.

Had a conversation I've needed to have for awhile. Things aren't great, but I think they're as they should be. Figure I'll get by on "I did what I should have" until I manage "things are genuinely better".

Saw mj2q who came from out of town for the party. Thanks for making it out, Mark!

Anton is also out here, and is moving up to the bay. Good to see old friends.

My younger brother Seth is out here as well. It was a crowded night in the house, and several of us didn't get to bed 'til 7am.

I took Mark to Dickens Faire on Sunday and got to see some friends pose in the Dark Garden window. Mmm....

Still no net access at home. Speakeasy is having problems for reasons I don't yet understand, so not sure when it'll happen. I may need to fax them a phone bill, which will be easier once I get my first phone bill.

Dark Garden sells custom corsets. At Dickens Faire they have a storefront, and people pose as sort of real-people-mannequins in particular scenes, holding very still. The people in question are pretty much always showing off their excellent Dark Garden corsets...

It was an excellent party. I'm bad at analyzing party chemistry, so I'm not sure if it was the nicely balanced combination of friend groups, a few particular people who were sparkling, or really good scotch and port. In any case, I would have stayed much longer if bikerscum's surgery hadn't tapped his party stamina.

I find that those peer groups tend to get by, individually, on a few people sparkling. We had one or two such sparkling folks from each peer group. For that reason among others I'm sorry that bikerscum was partially under the weather :-)

But yeah, I think we got good sparkly party people from every group from which we got people. That helps everybody to be comfortable.

Not, I hasten to add, that all my friends aren't excellent folks. But they're still not all at their most comfortable in big groups. I'm certainly not.

I drove to pick up laura in santa cruz, so i could drive her back to the san jose airport at 4am the next morning.

decided i needed a little rest after braving the giant rainstorm on Hwy17.

On the plus side, my car doesn't short out, or explode and kill me, when I ford a (moderately -- okay mildly, I'm too californicated in my driving fears) deep puddle.
