No more disturbing than expected:

Toasted rice cereal (rice, sugar, salt, high-fructose corn syrup, malt flavoring, niacinamide, reduced iron, riboflavin [Vitamin B2], folic acid), marshmallow (corn syrup, sugar, gelatin, artificial flavor), fructose, margarine (partially hydrogenated soybean oil, water, natural and artificial butter flavor, diacetyl tartaric acid esters of mono and diglycerides, acetylated monoglycerides, vitamin A palmitate, BHT to preserve quality, vitamin D), invert sugar, corn syrup solids, glycerin, salt, niacinamide, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), riboflavin (vitamin B2), thiamin hydrochloride (vitamin B1). Why does this bother me? Reading the list, my suspicions are confirmed. The only "MILK INGREDIENT" present is "natural and artificial butter flavor". Presumably the warning is there for the lactose-intolerant, but I'd still prefer that such things not be flattered by association with actual milk squirted out of an actual cow.

And I'm not sure how I feel about consuming diacetyl tartaric acid esters of mono and diglycerides. I'm reminded of an ingredient from a self-declared "potted meat food product", which I also never ate: "partially defatted pork fatty tissue".

Not knowing the particular manufacturer or their current marketing strategy this is just a wild-assed guess, but it may be a nod to fussy vegetarians complainers. Sure, there's /also/ gelatin present, but there's room for consumers of one of these and not the other to write angy threatening letters.

But more likely, it's just a nod to the lactose intolerant.
