Y'know, I was really hoping that wouldn't work.

At work, the source control system has a bunch of files called "config specs" that determine what versions of what files get used in different ways.

They're all stored on central servers, with no protection. So you can go in and screw up everybody's views with no way to prevent it and no record that you did it. Those of you that know what a source control system does will see the irony here.

I went in and fixed a typo. No biggie, other than the fact that our department isn't responsible for the file and there's no reason I should have been allowed to touch it. Made my life easier, though.

just think of it as your company punching through unnecessary bureaucracy. You could've posted an amusing story about all the contortions you had to go through to fix a simple typo, if you're company was fonder of the twists and turns of "going through the proper channels"
