noahgibbs: Me and my teddy bear at Karaoke after a day of RubyKaigi in HIroshima in 2017 (damned if I won't try)

Wow.

Earlier this week, my wife had to very suddenly fly to Portland, due to a sudden emergency. I stayed down here, partly because we're having the carpet replaced some time between 8am and 11am tomorrow, and I needed to move absolutely all our furniture off absolutely all carpeted areas.

Luckily, a friend volunteered to help. Unluckily, said friend had to work late and didn't make it.

The upshot is that over the last two evenings, plus all of today (I took today off work), I have moved everything we own into our garage or kitchen. All the furniture, all the bric-a-brac, everything except a little bit in closets or the bathroom.

On these grounds, I claim rockin'-ness. So saith I.

In completely unrelated news, man am I tired.

I would say that's a justified claim of rockin'-ness. Go you! I hope you have help for the moving of everything back after carpeting.

At least some help. Also, not everything needs to be moved back, which helps. And unpacking is never as hard as packing.

That's a lovely combination of sentiment and userpic ;-)

Oy, I'm sorry I didn't come over and help. I thought about it when you said you wanted help on Wednesday, but then I didn't remember until Wednesday night, and just though, bleh. Do you need any more help moving it all back?

I wouldn't mind help, certainly. And it looks like we've got somebody coming over tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon to help, but she can't do heavy lifting. So especially if you're willing to be part of an experiment that goes, "I wonder if several people who can't really do heavy lifting can be combined to lift up this large piece of furniture?"...

I've actually moved most of the one-person-shiftable heavy stuff back into place, so this would only be with one or two things that are just too big for me to lift.

Also luckily, we won't be moving a lot of the smaller stuff back. We're having our house "staged" on Tuesday for selling, which means we only sort of live here. The house will be full of rented furniture nicer than ours in order to keep it sufficiently salesworthy-looking :-)

I can come tomorrow (Sunday) if you need us, and bring Jesse with me so we ought to be able to do some heavy lifting. We'd be bringing Rebecca too, but we won't give her any cranberry juice for your new carpet. Let us know when would be good. For us some time ending around 1:30 which is Rebecca's nap time would be best I think.

Ooh! Well, that's early enough that you won't see Krissy (I'll need to go pick her up from the airport at right about 1:30, actually), but it *would* get stuff put together before she showed up...

That'd be excellent if you could. You're welcome to come over as early as you like before that, but an hour, or honestly even a half-hour, would probably get all the big furniture moving done. Everything else would either be social time (yay!) or getting you to help me pack.

And if you have any need for a ginormous filing cabinet or a wall shelf divided into square cubbies, bring extra vehicle space ;-)

When do you have to leave to pick up Krissy? 1? 1:30? Why don't we come over around 11-11:30, help for an hour, then go have lunch somewhere? (Somewhere relaxed and family okay, like Mexican, Indian, Pizza or Chinese)

That sounds excellent. Krissy's plane gets in at about 2:00 in San Jose, so I should be on the road by about 1:30.

Okay, then we'll plan to show up around 11:30.

Excellent. See you then!

We've got a couple of choices for relaxed and family-okay, including the choices you listed and Lebanese. Well, at least if Pick-Up Stix counts as Chinese :-)

At the moment that level of activity is inconceivable to me.

We are not worthy!
