I interpreted that statement as more about emotional validation than sex. Maybe for some people, being with lots of people at once is a defense against ever being single?

That's unquestionably true for some people. And yeah, I'd agree with the "emotional validation" point, though you could read it either way. In context it sounds less like it's about sex, though you could still read it either way.

Actually, I think that was a reaction to someone else I saw who was complaining specifically about only getting sex three times a week, combined with the actual comment. I would also complain about them taking more than their fair share...

Heh :-) Yeah, this mailing list post was almost certainly unrelated to the instance you're discussing...

Though come to think of it, I'm not sure I know which instance you're discussing. There was something like it recently on a friend's LJ, but the frequency involved was a lot less than three times a week. Once every three weeks.

But then, you could be referring to somebody else entirely.
