Back from a lovely weekend camping with [livejournal.com profile] meowlzebub. Much fun was had.

I forgot to mention - a few weeks ago I saw "Howl's Moving Castle" with Anton and [livejournal.com profile] startled, among others. It's Studio Ghibli, and lives up to their other offerings. Highly recommended. Apparently it's also based on a children's book. I have no idea how similar the book is to the movie.

The book is of the same title, and is by Diana Wynne Jones. I highly recommend it.

The primary plot is much the same in the book, but everything else is unrecognizably different. There's no war on, for starters; the tech level is about a hundred years earlier; Sophie's sisters figure far more prominently, the King and his adviser hardly at all.

ANYthing by Diana Wynne Jones rocks my socks! I'm so glad she's getting exposure this way, even though I've heard the movie abadons the book about a third of the way through (I have yet to see it myself).

The film is worth a viewing. Miyazaki rocks!

Another film I enjoyed that was completely different from the book was Big Fish...the book was awesome in a different way, definitely worth the read.

I actually own Big Fish, but have yet to watch it. I didn't know it was a book. Who by?

Good book. Not much like the movie. I liked it better, but then perhaps that was because I could actually understand it. Can't wait to see the movie with actual English.. :)

Anton saw it with me, here... did he say if it was better or worse knowing what they were saying?

He said he didn't feel (after seeing it in English) like he'd missed much. There were a couple of specific points that were clearer in English, but they didn't add a huge amount (he said) to the story.
