Where/how do you mount your FasTrak transponder? Do you just put it on the windshield (if you have one)?

Yep.

It lives in the left-side glovebox when I'm not using it.

Heh. My motorcycle is entirely devoid of glove box, it turns out :-)

FanBoy uses his. He keeps it in either his jacket front pocket or his backpack (don't currently remember which).

What is important is to register your moto. That way, even if the damn thing doesn't go off after 2-3 months they just run your License plate and auto deduct.

In the meantime they send nasty notices where you just fill out your transponder & L# info and they deduct your account that way. Different bridges have different success rates; the San Mateo seemed to be about 60-75% success while the Bay Bridge was more like 80-90% and the Carcinas was about 75-85%.

Yeah, the motorcycle is registered with them (well, other than the license plate # - I'm waiting to get that in the mail).

Just don't know how/whether to mount the transponder on the bike.

I'd avoid mounting it for one simple reason:

Theft.

In a car, people can't steal your transponder w/o breaking into your car. Hence, very few transponder thefts as the stereo is much cooler.

Motorcycles... not so much. Unless you are anal enough to remove it everytime you get off the bike AND remember to bring it back, safer to have it on your person (maybe saddle bags?) than to leave out in the open.

YMMV.

Ours are mounted on the center of the windshield, right behind the rearview mirror. Though I'm not sure where I'd mount one on a motorcycle. Hmm. Nothing in the paperwork about that?

I just know that the paperwork we got with ours said either where we put them, or the bottom corner of the windshield.

When FanBoy called they suggested his riding jacket. It isn't "standard" for support.

I got the car paperwork, but nothing specifically about motorcycles. I registered one car and one motorcycle with them.

My former landlord (some call him "Jim") kept it in his jacket pocket, or occasionally in his saddlebags. It's not shielded there, after all.

"Gosh, Officer, I musta left it home on my other bike this morning. Sorry 'bout that."

I only got about 30% success scanning with it mounted under my windscreen, so I stopped bothering. I wrestled with feeling guilty about not carrying it at all for a while, but eventually got over it.

Yeah, well, how much did you slow down through the transmitter footprint? :)

That was a theoretical response. I've never been stopped or hassled on my way through. But then, I slow to 20-25mph through the gates every time. :)

I almost never go anywhere without a tank bag, so when I get mine I'm going to try putting it in the top pocket underneath the map pocket.
