noahgibbs: Me and my teddy bear at Karaoke after a day of RubyKaigi in HIroshima in 2017 (monkey X)

There's an old children's book that we had when I was a kid whose name I'd been trying to remember for quite awhile. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] lady_phoenixice and a lucky Barnes and Noble search (Amazon, Powell's and Google all failed me!), I was able to successfully identify "Garth Pig and the Ice Cream Lady" as the book in question.

Apparently there's a whole series of them - basically all out of print. I am, nonetheless, happy to at least know the book's name :-) It makes me feel less like I'm just remembering some sort of bizarre ice-cream-related childhood hallucinations.

oh ya! I used to love that book too :)
My mom's favorite part was where the little pigs were playing outside singing some rhym about ham and bacon and pork chops and the mom pig was like, "such language!"
hehe. Loved the pictures.

"Ham, bacon, pork chop, out you must hop." Yeah :-)

I actually Googled for that first, thinking *somebody* must have put it on a web page. No dice, though.

Depending on how bad you want it, you can buy it here (http://www.alibris.com/search/search.cfm?qtit=Garth%20Pig%20and%20the%20Ice%20Cream&qauth=Rayner%2CMary&qsort=r). I warn you though, it's quite expensive.

Wow. Yeah, I don't want it enough to pay $80...

Based on the condition & description (& prices of others in the series), I suspect that's an error so I've reported it [I work there]. Check back in a day or so to see if the seller reprices it.

biblio has it for $12.00 on up. Site loads slowly, though.

I remember distinctly (and yet vaguely!) a series of books from when I was a kid, featuring a group of child detectives. Each page was an illustration of the scene surrounding the kids, and each page had some tiny visible clue (a scrap of cloth hanging from the gate, or a broken window, or whatever) that the reader was obliged to find before advancing to the next page.

The only conceivably google-able tidbit I remember from the books was the name of one of the kids: "Keith w/Squirrel" when he had his squirrel on hand, or "Keith w/o Squirrel" otherwise. But google just looks at me funny.

Heh :-) Sounds like fun. I don't think we had any of that series in our house when I was a kid.
