noahgibbs: Me and my teddy bear at Karaoke after a day of RubyKaigi in HIroshima in 2017 (do not anger the monkey)

My younger brother recently wrote a review of Sin City. I've both read the comic and seen the movie, and I'd have to agree with him.

I'd recommend the movie without reservation, though.

Never read the comic

but I saw the movie on Sunday morning . . . I have had seen movies better suited to the morning.
I am curios though . . . how did Elijah Wood measure up as Kevin in your eyes?

He did. I was really worried about that, but he was just perfect. The look, the motions, everything.

I've read and seen it, and I was blown away. Your brother takes the words right out of my mouth... it was like reading the comic on screen for 2 hours.

I never thought Sin City would make it to the big screen, and I thought it was equally improbable that it would transfer *well*. It's the most faithful domestic translation of a comic I've ever seen, though its competition consists mostly of stuff like Captain America.

My favorite IMDB trivia:

"Although the movie is presented primarily in black-&-white, particular items are in color and, as such, had to be colored blue or green on set. According to Rodriguez, Nick Stahl (who plays The Yellow Bastard) was known on set as "the Blue Bastard"."

My fiancee was less than enthusiastic about the stylized goriness, but enjoyed the film and compared it to Pulp Fiction. I haven't seen that (shush!) so I can't validate it.
