Went to the climbing gym yesterday for the first time in forever. I definitely understand better what needs to improve for me to keep getting better at climbing. Mainly, I need *way* more finger strength.

My arm strength has improved lots. I'd worried that I was slipping now that I'm not boot camping any more, but I've lost ten pounds and apparently gotten much stronger arms since last time I was climbing. That's definitely not bad.

Hmm. If you went to Planet Granite, I don't know how I missed you, since I was there all day (unless you showed up after 7:30, I guess, when I was teaching a lesson). Free climbing this weekend and next weekend at the new gym in Belmont: http://www.planetgranite.com (cheap plug)

Usually, good technique is the key to getting yourself off of your arms (and faster then bulking them up for the 'strong and stupid' climbing methods), but yeah, fingers take a long time to strenghten.

Either climb a lot or look into getting and/or using a campus board for finger training.

Yeah, we got there at about 8pm and climbed 'til 10 or 10:30.

I'll have to try out the new place in belmont! Cool!

Yeah. I'm trying to brute-force change from arms bent to arms straight (hang by straight arms, move up to the next hold with legs and hips) but it's just brutal hanging my whole weight by my fingers. On the other hand, I've been doing enough non-climbing bulking up that I'm much better at the "strong and stupid" climbing :-)

Is the campus board that thing where you hang by your fingers at different heights?
