Breathe... Breathe... Every significant decision seems like a bad idea to your stomach for the first fifteen minutes.

So, um, y'know that passport I just arranged for? It'll be getting a workout soon. 'Cause, y'know, I'm unemployed, and I've been meaning to, and hey, why not?

I apologize to folks I would otherwise be attending Black Sheets with. I'm not going to be there. To the one (who I've already contacted) that I'd be vouching for, you've got other contacts and I'll do anything I can to make sure you can still be there.

So, um, from June 10th until the 22nd, I'm gonna be out of town. In fact, I'm gonna be in Japan. Don't wait up.

Pout!

I wanna go!!!

That and I suppose Mr. Hitatchi and I are going to have to become much better friends as a result... sigh...

Make sure you have the passport back before you go, they get kind of pissy if you don't have one.

Y'know...

...there are just so many ways to respond to that comment.

But I'll be a nice, retiring sort, and ignore it...

Heh. I did expedited, so ten business days from Monday is what they say. That should work nicely for a June 10th departure, even with Fedex time.

How cool! I'm quite jealous.

United has an fantastic airfare to Sydney right now ($504!), which is all too tempting. Too bad it's one of their last-minute fares, and I've got something due in the middle of their dates. Grrr.

Great!

oooooh - neat. Japan is really fascinating. I had an amazing opportunity to spend time there in 2000 as part of a job - I took a was an athletic trainer for an all-star lacrosse team. (Actually come to think of it, for about the same exact dates you're going to be there....)

I've travelled a fair bit in Europe, but this was a completely different experience. The language barrier is pretty significant. It's a very weird feeling to not be able to READ anything, and to not even remotely be able to guess what words mean. Beautiful country, fascinating culture, and incredible place to visit. I hope to go back next year, if a friend of mine gets an English teaching gig there.

Heh. Yup. That's part of why I'm going now.

Not that Talia's going to have a lot of spare time while I'm there, but it gives me a corner to sleep in, which is *much* cheaper than a hotel. That, a rail pass, and a questionably-accurate assessment of my ability to take care of myself, and there I am! :-)

Awesome - the available free floor-space factor is huge. I fully intend to make it a long time before I'm too old to be sleeping on peoples floors. We managed a two month cross country road trip this summer with only TWO nights in hotels. The rest of the time we were either camping or crashing at various friends and family's places.

Free floor space in Japan

Hi, I'm the friend with the job teaching English, and the offer of floor space is open to anyone who wants it, particularly if Noah (or someone else I know) will vouch for you not being a psycho. I live in Hokkaido, so it's not what most people expect when they think of going to Japan, but it's a good place and still decidedly Japanese.

I only charge a jar of peanut butter and a box of Clif bars in return. :)

I'm happy you're taking the opportunity. Hopefully you'll enjoy it!

Yay Japan!

Japan is such a fascinating cool place! Where are you going?

I have stacks of guidebooks for Tokyo that you're welcome to borrow if they're applicable.

There will be other parties. :)

Go!!! Enjoy yourself! Life is full of opportunities that you shouldn't miss. This is one of them. Take my love with you and put it in a box and open the box every few days to remind you of it. :)
