noahgibbs: Me and my teddy bear at Karaoke after a day of RubyKaigi in HIroshima in 2017 (Default)

I got my new bookcase home not long ago... So one of my existing ones is now dead.

My room is once again a disaster area stacked with piles of books.

But I *did* manage to change where the bed was and get some vacuuming done.

Anybody got a truck or largish car, and a willingness to help me make an Ikea run? I can cheerfully offer bribes in return since that would help me avoid about $70 in delivery fees.

If you have Ikea bookcases, someone showed me a trick recently to increase their capacity for paperback books by 50% using 2x4's...

Neat! I've got a similar (Ikea-supported) solution for CDs on one of the shelves...

However, I don't really have that many paperbacks. My books tend to be taller and thinner rather than short, so I doubt it'd work well for me.

I'm assuming you're talking about effectively adding more shelves here. If not, I'm curious what the trick is :-)

4"X4"s in deep shelves. They are almost exactly the right size to have two rows of books on each shelf & you can see the author's name and most of the title. That's what we have on our sci-fi shelves, and it works great. We actually put small spacers behind the 4X4, so it fits right. It's especially useful if you have more than one shelf of paperbacks.

I stole the trick from Judith above; I used 2x4's as that's what I remembered her using. You stack the back row of paperbacks on the 2 x 4 and put another row of paperbacks in front. Not so good for hard covers though.

not 'largish'...

my car doesn't qualify as 'largish,' but it actually has held lots of ikea stuff quite well. yay hatchback.

however, it can't hold a passenger with the Ikea stuff. and really _wide_ things are a problem.

so feeble as the offer is, let me know if you don't get a better one! it's a great excuse for scary meatballs, and i can buy another tube of Swedish FishLike Paste[tm]

;-)

I've got the WonderWagon (station wagon) and could help out with this next week sometime, if you don't find other assistance sooner... :)

If you can't find anyone else...

I owe you a favor or two. I can make the van into a hauler that was able to transport a double bed and then some. It could probably handle Ikea. Monday or Tuesday work for you?

I've got a truck. [livejournal.com profile] cortneyofeden and I are busy this weekend but we might be able to work something out.
