noahgibbs: Me and my teddy bear at Karaoke after a day of RubyKaigi in HIroshima in 2017 (Default)

Job interview went well. I'll know next week whether anything comes of it. I like the sound of the job, but I'll need to decide if I want to work at a startup. It'll take a lot of my time, but it'll do it with really good work. The people are good, and I already know a lot of them. Dunno. Tempting.

Spent much of the day worthless and/or napping. Was a nice change. I needed it.

Received Duvetyne safety cloth in the mail today. Purchased professional-quality fire extinguisher several days ago. Called Fire Marshall today (waiting for callback) to determine legality of certain fire-related things we do in the back yard at DHPs. Good day for fire safety stuff.

Tried to give VMWare a call back. They'd asked about my resume. So we're now playing phone tag. May not matter if the startup looks good enough, but we'll see. No reason to stop job hunting before I've got an offer in hand, right?

No reason to stop job hunting until you've accepted an offer.

True. In this case, I'd almost certainly accept an offer from TapWave (the startup) in preference to VMWare, though. It's possible they'll surprise me, but I'm expecting something solid, expected and not particularly special as the VMWare job description. TapWave would almost certainly be preferable.

So if VMWare made an offer, that might not stop me hunting, but if TapWave does, it pretty certainly will.

If he sounds nervous, feel free to mention there are frequently medically trained people at your parties. (ie. I used to be an EMT, I've run into a couple other with some sort of certification.)

Heh. I plan to mention our regular fire precautions (hose, extinguisher, etc), but I'm a little leery about mentioning having EMTs around. That makes it sound like we've got one or more "on duty" as a constant thing. So far, I haven't even had such people announce themselves as such to the hosts, which is kind of a requirement if we're going to make sure we've always got one or more around for fire stuff...

Source?

Would you please share your source? I know a couple of fire spinners who are looking to order some!

Thanks!

The place is called Bearclaw, and should be quite googleable -- I think I just looked for something like "Fireproof safety cloth" and got their site.

They also sell a bewildering variety of stuff that can be set on fire, including chopsticks, fans, poi, torches, batons, jump ropes, floggers, multi-headed poi, hula hoops....

I added you, and forget to mention it to you... I was at the last DHP... I was there with my husband [livejournal.com profile] jack_burroghs. We had a blast, and I talked to you a little bit in your garage about olive oil, cheese and chocolate :D
