noahgibbs: Me and my teddy bear at Karaoke after a day of RubyKaigi in HIroshima in 2017 (Default)
One consequence of me working hard to market to the Ruby community: I can't really deny that it's shrinking rather than growing. There's not *zero* money there or anything like it. But I need to assume that I'll require a different long-term plan than "I'm big in Ruby."

Fair. Was gonna happen some day.

Once I would have found myself thinking about what language I found technically elegant, or who was solving the most interesting (read: highest-status) problems.

Now I look around and think, "those poor bastards writing Javascript have confusing horrible tooling, they have to solve more real-world problems than anybody else and they get no respect. Perhaps that's my future homeland."

At some point I guess I became a Hufflepuff without realising it.
