We're halfway-ish into the amount of remodeling we'll be doing here - a bit over a week done, around another week left. They're repainting the rooms and walls that we can bear to, while leaving the garage, bathroom and a few other bits with the existing large murals. The floor will be much prettier than it ever has been in my tenure here.

Then, on January 7th, we'll put the place on the market and get ready to leave, approximately permanently. We'll come back periodically for awhile -- older daughter needs every-six-months braces maintenance for awhile, for instance. But our time living in California grows short.

We have some destinations planned pretty solidly. For instance, we'll be renting a place for three weeks in Fukuoka, up through RubyKaigi. And we'll be following my conference schedule to a few other places mostly outside the US. We're planning to spend time in Washington DC, though the specific dates on that have drifted a bit. Fukuoka doesn't get to drift any more - we've reserved an AirBnB :-)

Time to get started on the 2019 stuff! The RubyKaigi CfP has opened, so I need to get my submission in. Shouldn't be too hard this year. I've known what I want to submit for months. I just need to write it up.

Our youngest is nearly ten months old now. She's vigorous and thriving. She gets into crawling position easily, but can't really crawl yet. She's at that lovely point of frustration where she'll clearly get there soon. But she can sit, lie down and roll over pretty decently, so she can sometimes get where she wants to that way.

Older kids are doing well, by and large. Oldest kid continues to do well on math. She's caught up and is continuing at a pretty good clip. Middle kid is having more trouble with his, and we're pulling him back to an easier series of books. That's okay - oldest kid wasn't even as far along as he is two years ago, and it's worked out well for her. He's clearly got basic mathematical talent, and he also clearly doesn't have the patience to read directions carefully yet.

There are a lot of feelings about leaving the house, all around. But overall we're definitely looking forward to it as an adventure.
