There's an old children's book that we had when I was a kid whose name I'd been trying to remember for quite awhile. Thanks to ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
lady_phoenixice and a lucky Barnes and Noble search (Amazon, Powell's and Google all failed me!), I was able to successfully identify "Garth Pig and the Ice Cream Lady" as the book in question.
Apparently there's a whole series of them - basically all out of print. I am, nonetheless, happy to at least know the book's name :-) It makes me feel less like I'm just remembering some sort of bizarre ice-cream-related childhood hallucinations.
