noahgibbs: Me and my teddy bear at Karaoke after a day of RubyKaigi in HIroshima in 2017 (Default)
I have a bunch of stuff I'd like to do, but haven't actually managed to schedule. For those of you that do more of this than I do, or do it more successfully - do you manage these things in some way? I keep 'em rattling around in my head, which is never a very secure location.

I've recently started a social slush file (where "slush" means not yet scheduled, and not necessarily with a specific time in mind), which may help. But what do other people do?

This week, Brezsny says:

It's an excellent time for you to fuel your urge to compete. But wait! Before you start working yourself into a frenzy about your rivals and adversaries, before you erupt with a surge of jealous fantasies, read this quote from ballet superstar, Mikhail Baryshnikov: "I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to dance better than myself." That's the special kind of competitive zeal I advise you to stoke in the coming weeks, Gemini.

Yeah. That's been my motto to myself for awhile. I'm aware that my competitive nature is only so-so against other people. The trick is to take my urge to be pretty good, and to be pretty good in amongst greatness. Sometimes this requires not competing against other human beings, since there are fields where being among the best in a field still leaves you mediocre.
