So, like, I knew Disney was releasing some Studio Ghibli films. They did Princess Mononoke as a theatrical release, even. And I knew that Nausicaa was on their list of stuff to do, and I wasn't shocked when it was pushed back a bit -- Nausicaa needs to be done really, really well or it shouldn't be done at all, though I'm sad that it's been such a long time and you still can't buy a copy in English...

But I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about having Patrick Stewart and Uma Thurman doing voice acting for the Disney version...

I think Disney bought up the rights to the Ghibli stuff mostly so they won't have it overshadowing their own releases.

You can get pirated Taiwanese stuff, or quasi-legal region 2 DVDs if you're motivated.

i've been pleased with disney's dubs... and the DVDs always have subtitled versions, so i think it's all good.

Is Neil Gaiman doing the scripting for this one too? Can't say I thought the English version of Mononoke was all that hot, but not because of the script. (it was more Clair Danes doing the whiney teenager bit that bugged me).

I assume he still is, if only because I believe that was a condition of Miyazaki releasing his stuff in English.

And yeah, Claire Danes (and occasionally Gillian Anderson) didn't do the best job on that.

Again, I'm not sure what I think of Uma Thurman... And, oddly enough, Mandy Patinkin. Like, Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride.
