(no subject)

It looks like Fedex will be bringing pirate stuff earlier than expected... The box will be here in time for the party on Saturday. Now I just have to decide if we need to keep it untouched for All Hallows... :-)

Ray, one of our DH Partygoers pointed out PirateMod, which sells pirate gear, especially (only?) t-shirts. Go have a look, it's nifty. That's a lot of different skull'n'crossbones insignia.

I'm trying to figure out how to do a good rum punch with marinated fruit, kinda like a Sangria. Any of you folks done that before? Anybody got a recipe?

Oh, and by popular request we are now well-equipped for margaritas. Some decent tequila (no, not Cuervo, that's not decent tequila) and locally-made mixers. The mixers look good but I haven't tried them, so perhaps I should get a recipe for doing 'em from scratch. That's hard to do in big batches, though.

YAY!

Oh, damn, what's the formula? It's like 1 part drink, 2 parts sour 3 parts sweet or somesuch. I'll check my cookbook ("Jamaican Recipes from od Jamaican Grandmothers") tonight and get you the Caribbean-pirate approved mix.

s/some decent tequila/some decent tequila, like Don Patron/gm

What we've got is one with a monkey on it whose name I forgot, but hey, monkey, and a bottle of Sauza Reposada Hornitos (or something very much like that). Not sure if that's up to your standards, but they're both about $25 a bottle, which I figured was strongly tolerable for margaritas.

For serious drinking, I'd go to a more serious tequila-vendor. But I'll see about Don Patron if I can find it.

Hmmm, margaritas... Do you have a sufficiently powerful blender or ice crusher?

[identity profile] angelbob.livejournal.com 2003-10-07 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
We've got a standard blender with an ice-crushing setting, yeah.

If the weather is cool enough, you might also want to consider mulled wine.

I strongly recommend the esquire drink database.

It's opinionated about many things, but their opinion is often right.

I have what's not a recipe per se but am perfectly happy to come up there early (assuming I learn how to get there) and help to make a tasty yuminess.

But the basic idea is big huge brand new plastic bin, rum, kool aid, and tons of fruit. Mix all together, marinate for several hours to let the fruit suck up the alcohol, and nosh.

:)

I also make a really yummy tequila sangria that I'd be wiling to whip up.

Oh yeah. Hi. I don't know you. At least not that I'm aware of. But will soon. Teehee! Another semi-CMU person in Silicon Valley.....

I actually came up with a pretty good recipe for punch this past party, with the aid of [livejournal.com profile] mertuil... It's mostly like a Mai Tai, though we make it by the punchbowl :-)

The tequila sangria sounds really cool, though. I'm definitely interested.

I'll send you an invitation to the Disaster House Party community, which contains the invitation URLs. The next DHP is on halloween, and the one after that is December 6th. I can also put you on the email announce list if you like.

[livejournal.com profile] bk2w and [livejournal.com profile] plymouth have both told me about the parties already. :)

I think I can safely say that [livejournal.com profile] ef2p and I will be showing up on Halloween. Thanks!

Cool! I've invited you to the community. If you want to be on the email announce list, email me (or Brian).
