Some Disaster House Party various stuff...

Apparently we're likely to get a mention in the CMU alumni newspaper. One of our local celebrities was being interviewed, and mentioned the parties, and apparently the editor took an interest. I've asked that the URL not be included, which may or may not even reach the editor in question, but we'll see how it goes. But hey, we're famous, sorta vaguely.

I'm probably going to start announcing the parties on other forums -- maybe the "aroundfremont" LJ community and the CMU tribe on tribe.net, for instance. I'm not sure if I should suggest RSVPing a little harder on the public forums, or just see who shows up, or what. I'm not sure if I should go the whole way and post the URL, which will get more responses and give more information, or avoid it and get less random people finding us via Google...

And on another note, for the party on October 11th, what should we do, pinata-wise? I could fill it with candy. I don't want to reuse the flavored condoms, 'cause it's not a good idea to re-use condoms :-) But if we got some regular, non-flavored condoms suitable for your preferred sort of intercourse, would people actually take them with? We wound up with a *ridiculous* number of flavored condoms just sitting around the house that first time. Or should we fill the pinata with something else entirely? Belgian chocolate and sex toys are both out, for reasons of expense.

how about filling it with those little white paper-wrapped things you get at 4th of july that are full of gunpowder and gravel and go *BANG!* when you step on them? (I don't know what they're called) That could be amusing if people caused them to go off while still in the pinata... Ok, so it could be bad for the whole nudity angle...

No no! It would encourage the nudity angle, as there is a chance a spark from one of those *could* light you on fire.

The problem with those (or the benefit, depending on your point of view) is that they need a hard flat surface to go off. So you can't really use them in the yard, so they won't go off when dropped.

You'd have to carry them to the back porch to do anything with them.

I'm also not sure I could get enough of them. They're reasonably cheap per box, but a box isn't very many...

You're going to need a bigger house. :) (And keep in mind that places like [livejournal.com profile] aroundfremont have lots of minors -- careful of liability.)

I've pondered, when I've had a pinata, asking folks to donate tiny amounts of really fancy stuff for the pinata to go in there in addition to condoms and candy. I've brought (for others' pinatas) random stuff I've got around the house like tiny beanie babies (teenie beanies) that I didn't want, I've picked up small gift certificates for Baskin Robbins and put them in rolled in small cylinders, I've dumped in the contents of Good Vibes' lube pillow pack sampler bag. There are those basic tiny toys (slinkies, etch-a-sketch, etc.) on keychains, there are piles of stuff (grosses!) from Oriental Trading (http://www.orientaltrading.com/otcweb/application?namespace=main). Again, I'd ask folks to bring stuff like that, as well as keep a "saving stuff up for the pinata" bowl around the house for it, rather than try to buy it myself. Then the contents are a surprise to everyone. ;)

(Also, then you can pick out the condoms and lube, and hand the leftovers out to trick-or-treaters. But save a few condoms on the side. I've always had a few teenage trick-or-treaters, and they appreciate them. ;)

Ah! Pointing out that minors may read the invitation is a fine thing. We should probably clarify our policy on children, just generally. We did that for the July 4th weekend party, but then we had the party divided into family-friendly and adult-only sections for that party.

The pinata collection bowl is also a good idea. Thanks!

Good God. Wow. I'd never seen Oriental Trading before. I so owe you for that URL. And now I need to throw a pirate-themed party. Pirate-themed disasters... Hmm....

How about the last day Pirates of the Caribbean is in theatres . . . or alternately the day it was released if you hated the movie.

I'm not sure if I should go the whole way and post the URL

I'd vote against it. One of the best things about the DHPs in my book is that the guest list consists mainly of people who are already known to at least a few of the folks there (and known to be generally cool folks), thus making it a more comfortable space than it might be otherwise. Encouraging random strangers to show up would, at the very least, make me more reluctant to remove clothing. And how badly do we really need more people at these things, anyway?
