Another damn fine party.

Family night got a better turnout than expected, and was fun but reasonably low-key. We're getting better at getting people to eat real food rather than all ice cream and chocolates :-) A reasonable number of folks slept over both nights, and we did okay for sleep space... Didn't even need to set the tent up!

Thanks to folks who introduced me to the game of "But Baron..." (is that what you call it?), and I'm glad I entertained. Seems like a fun and family-friendly activity, and we can always use more of those.

Saturday got an even better turnout, and people showed up significantly earlier than I'd thought. Significant hot tub time, casual nudity and fun activities with fun people made my night the best of any party so far, and I like my parties.

The pinata was an absolutely raging success, and I plan to tell stories about it for some time. My first job as a host is to get really cool people to come to the parties. You folks make it much easier!

Several things were set on fire (intentionally, like), at several different times, but the Humorous Candle Mishap is going to require higher melting-point paraffin. Still, a very good time was had by all, fire-wise.

To the several responsible people who took precautionary shifts manning the fire extinguisher and hose: thanks much, and I'm glad your role stayed precautionary rather than active.

And thanks to the two different EMTs who were present when the foot injury occurred. Yeah, it wasn't very serious... But I'm glad we had no shortage of first aid knowledge on hand, just in case it had been serious.

I really really wish I could have come, but between our party on Friday, and the Tea Party (http://www.livejournal.com/users/cassidyrose/234559.html), I was beat. :(

Next time, I hope.

August 9th, if you're up for it.

It's looking like we're not gonna do an all-weekend party again any time soon. I liked it (though I was absolutely exhausted afterward -- I slept from 3pm 'til 10pm, and I may yet sleep more before work tomorrow), but it was a bit much for the housemate, who is more of an introvert. Our house is small and the walls are thin. There's just nowhere to go to avoid the noise of all the people...

We wouldn't have one primarily because it'd stress DJ out too much. She doesn't sleep when company is over.

[livejournal.com profile] deyo is a bit of an introvert, too.

He's an introvert?

Hmm. Doesn't seem to match with the fact he was wandering around in a torn shirt and miniskirt last night...

He's really damned good with the grill, though.

You'd be surprised how many outgoing introverts we get at these parties :-)

And yes, he really is something else with the grill.

He's an introvert?

I think the best way I've heard of distinguishing an introvert from an extrovert is under what conditions they feel reenergized. I can be very outgoing and sociable in a large group, but it gets tiring. When I get tired like that, the right thing for me to do is be by myself. I like people, and I like good groups of friends, but if I had to live under just one of those conditions, I would very easily and very quickly choose to live alone or with just one person.

He's really damned good with the grill, though.

Well, thank you very much. I'm really glad it worked out so well. And this makes me feel even more justified in yanking the steaks out of Noah's hands. Though we didn't have hamburger stuff quite figured out, what with the lack of condiments; an eternal problem with last minute ideas.

it was a bit much for the housemate

bit much for me too, but I think I mentioned that. Don't get me wrong, I think it was an excellent time and I had an awful lot of fun and I was impressed by your hosting skills and how well everything went... but by sometime saturday night I had just had enough of people. Certain groups of people seem to bring out my exhibitionist side, um, a lot. And I go into high show-off mode and then at some point I come down from the thrill of it and say "my god, did I just DO that?" and want to go hide (which isn't the same as regret. I don't regret it, I just kinda worry that I went a little too far and need to chill out and re-collect myself). I think that I would avoid coming into town for another weekend-long event, but would definitely come back for a one-night party. Unfortunately, Aug 9th is the day of my family reunion for my dad's side in massachusetts...

That's the cost of hosting such a long event. We (the guests) can get away whenever we wish. You don't have quite that luxury. The last time I co-hosted a weekend-long event, we actually had loosely scheduled shifts: one or the other of us was off during the day, although we were both on at night. Since I'm an introvert, I still got fried, but the ToasterHead had a marvelous time and still had extra energy to socialize with the few folks who just didn't feel like leaving when the party was 'over.' But it was a lot easier for having had the break away from the hosting space.

Hmm, next time in that situation, I just may have to make sure I'm off for the bulk of the daytime....

We definitely had time when we were "on" and "off". I seemed to gravtiate towards taking care of the food, Noah seemed to gravitate towards taking care of the entertainment. It wasn't scheduled, per se, but I think it worked well.

The problem I had was that, while I could get away from hosting, I couldn't get away from the people. I might be able to find a decent way to get the away-time I need in the future, though.

I'll admit that I've been going over ways in my head that we might be able to get you some time off so that we could do this again in the future :-)

And yes, you were well-justified in taking the steaks out of my hands. I'm tolerable, but you're much better than I am. And for that matter, we're probably *very* well placed when you're taking care of food and I'm taking care of entertaining people. Not absolutely always, but by and large.

Well, by time "off", I actually meant time away. We'd set it up so that a friend's house was nearby and empty, and I got to go over there and veg out with the kitties, sit in their hot tub, and generally pretend for a few hours that other folks didn't exist. It was *heaven*.

OTOH, the ToasterHead didn't use it at all...

Yup. Sounds like me and Brian :-)

Then again, I don't like to leave people alone when there's a chance things will go wrong for very roughly the same reason Brian doesn't like me managing the steaks :-) I'm too paranoid to just leave the party and take a couple of hours off unless there's a *very* definite designated host that will take care of things.

I remember other people saying "Baron Munchausen" or something like that. (I don't know German, so my apologies if I'm butchering the language...)

I was almost toast when I got home, so it's good I left when I did. Nothing like 13-hour sleep to...er...really fuck you over...yeah.

Did you ever finish off that 151? It was only about half gone last I remember...

The first bottle was mostly used for firebreathing. The second bottle was only about half or three-quarters finished, and the third bottle wasn't touched. At least, that's how I remember it.

Oh, and hey, I think you missed the fire dancer! We had a guy who did firedancing show up later, and since an informant told me he did that, I asked him and he had his stuff in the car. It was excellent!

Unfortunately, he was only in briefly from Wisconsin, so he won't be a regular fixture. But he was quite good!

Sounds good. I'd still like to actually meet you one of these times :-)

But yeah, if you want to come and fire dance, we're always up for more good fire-based entertainment :-) We can pay a bit in cash if necessary, and either way we'll offer hot tub time, excellent people, and great food, alcohol and chocolate! :-)

There are several fire dancers in the area, I'm sure more can be persuaded to show up at your parties in the future.

And thanks for a fun party, as usual!

Only in the top five for the year? Man, I'm gonna have to do more stuff with nude people and fire :-P

Thank you! You were one of several unexpected really cool people who helped make the party a better success than expected.

And I in no way mean to belittle all the expected really cool people who helped make the party a great success :-)

re: top five
I've been to a party or two almost every weekend, so yeah, top five. That's quite a compliment, given that most of the parties I go to have scantily clad, slutty folk, many have fire dancing and/or breathing, and many have had hot tubs. When you come down to it, its the people that make a party. And you have an awesome collection of friends!

*blush* I'm glad to hear I was an unexpected plus. Adding to a party is always a good idea. or something. its late, I should stop now. :)

Well, we're entirely pleased that you enjoyed yourself. And hope it was enough to convince you to come to more of them.

And as a side-note, since I know transporation can be a bit of a pain from the city, we're only about 3 miles from the Fremont BART station (green line), and we can absolutely have someone with a car meet you there if you give us a call. And crash-space has, so far, always been available so you can head back home in the morning if you'd prefer to stay later than BART runs.

3.5 mi, and a very pleasant bike ride. I think the bike-from-BART method is going to win out over borrowing my roommate's car, in the future. It runs later at night than I'd realized, too.
