May. 23rd, 2003 12:46 pmA friend of mine,
wuttd, is teaching himself to write. Not, like, to spell words and write letters, but to write fiction and poetry and things like that. Something he wrote recently was really especially good, and I thought I'd repost it.
metropolize
-----------
to become like a metropolis
thus aspires small towns everywhere
small towns with an inferiority complex
but being a metropolis comes with a price
you sell your soul to the likes of nike
or coca-cola
just look at tokyo
is that what you want?
there are small towns that would
vigorously nod their small town heads
and enthusiastically say YES!

Date: 2003-05-24 09:48 pm (UTC)I thought this one was pretty straightforward other than the structure, which is probably inspired by a Bukowski poem I pointed Roger at.
And the structure (like, how it's broken up into lines) has always seemed (to me) to be meant to represent how you think about it -- just kinda cut up into bits. At least, that's about how Bukowski seems to do it. Roger's version is more straightforward, and uses longer sentence fragments before ending a line, but Roger also seems to form thoughts in large chunks :-)
