I was again reminded that if one wants to plan a weekend in Santa Barbara, do it early. A lot of the nicest places fill up entirely a month or more in advance. I was able to find something excellent (which should relieve at least one of you out there), but it's good I didn't wait a few more days.

Who plans their vacations a month in advance? I mean, besides people with kids.

Well, if you have the tendency to go wandering around in third world countries, some planning helps. Also, letting go of the whole need to stay in a "nice" place ;-)

True. I'd plan more if I were going to a third-world country. I don't think Santa Barbara qualifies, though :-)

But yeah, I've gotten reservations (barely) a few days beforehand. It just involves calling many, many places.

And I could generally get accomodations only a day or so before if I was willing to sleep on Anton's couch, but he doesn't live there any more.
