Brezsny says:

"Sand castles are icons of ephemerality. They're best built in the wet sand left behind on the beach when the tide goes out; they're demolished when the tide comes back in a few hours later. I'd like to make them one of your sacred emblems for 2003. In doing so, I don't mean to imply that your certainties will be any less transitory than usual. Rather, it's my way of urging you to capitalize on the fleeting nature of all things, which should be one of your specialties in the coming months. As the Buddhist monk and genius Thich Nhat Hanh says, "Thanks to impermanence, everything is possible."

If, hypothetically, I'd just made a significant life decision that I expected to last awhile, this might seem ominous. But hey, how likely is that?

well, don't think of them as life decisions... life decisions are too confining. i think you'll find that if you can treat situations like that as a fresh occurrance, a miracle, every day, then it'll be wonderful :)

think of it as a daily decision. if you seem to want to make that daily decision all the time, then it's definitely a good decision, y'know? i like to think of it as being a situation where at night, when you sleep, the sandcastle gets washed away, but in the morning, you rebuild it again.

one day, perhaps you'll decide not to rebuild the sandcastle, but until that decision comes, you'll wake up, and faithfully do it... and affirm whatever "life decision" you decided to make, at that moment.
