This is lovely. Memepool mentioned it today in one of their links.

It's an anthropological document titled Body Ritual Among the Nacirema.

Definitely worth a quick perusal.

Ahhh, yes, the Naricema.

We read that in Intro to Socio-Cultural Anthropology last year. First thing.

Oh boy, but was it messed-up. So much fun, especially with a Italian-educated-in-England-and-divorced-from-an-Indian teacher who enjoyed irony and making fun of cultures, sorta. She had educated rage, I think.

It took a while. The mention of stone walls for the shrine room didn't match with what I'm used to, and the idea of the "holy-mouth-man" deliberately making holes is something I've feared but haven't had happen yet. The scraping of the face did it. Oh, and the baking of the head. Then I saw it. It's freaky.

For me it was 'round about the hog bristles that I started to really consider, though one or two other things struck a note before that.
