There's a web site called Hoot Island that I was recently pointed to. It has a really remarkable variety of silly sex articles -- like a story about finding sex toys in the road, a demonstration of difference in romantic points of view, and something I've considered before but not written up about how people should stop saying "sucks".

And it contains a very large number of lovely phrases like "She's 8" tall and will make you the envy of every bobble head collector. I'll give you a few moments to appreciate how pathetic that sounds."

Oh! And they like Asia Carrera too! Having read their interview with her, I have a new favorite quote by her:

"I don't watch pornos! What do I look like, some kind of sicko?"

the linguistics of sucking is something that i have also thought about from time to time. the thing is, there are no appropriate words left to express how really really bad things sometimes are. there are obviously similarities here to expressions like fucked up, fuck [whomever] and fucked over, which shouldn't really be used to describe bad things.

and then, on the other hand, there are the politically incorrect things to say...bad things can't be gay, lame, retarded, etc, because using those words that way makes them bad things too by association. there are a few colorful descriptive terms that are inarguably bad to begin with such as sick, but most of them already mean good for some strange warped reason.

so what are we left with? that was very, very bad and unpleasant...accurate, almost concise, and sort of boring.

If I have to read another stupid "men are thinking "let's go" and women are overromanticizing this" thing I will absolutely puke. Why do we keep perpetuating these myths? Good lord.

It's not 100% myth. Is it 100% true? Certainly not. Is it statistically more probable than 50%? In my experience, very much so.

Does that mean you want to read another one? Of course not.

People will keep writing, reading and enjoying them regardless. I don't want to read another Ann Coulter column and I wish she'd stop writing them -- but in much the same way, she keeps writing them and her fan base keeps reading them, probably with (gack!) the occasional "you tell 'em!"

You really think some girl you're making out with is thinking "his strong hands are running up and down my back" or some such nonesense? Please. She's thinking "I wonder if I'm using too much tongue" or "Hmmm this is nice" or "Disgusting, he's got garlic breath." I mean, seriously, what kind of women are you dating that are telling you they're thinking this absurd bullshit when they're about to get intimate with someone?

No, I don't think the woman is thinking like a romance novel, nor do I literally think that a guy (me or otherwise) is likely to be literally coming up with a baseball team in his head. That would be exaggeration for humor value.

Do I think women pay more attention to the setting and overall mood, before and during sex, than guys generally or me in particular? Statistically, yes, I think so.

Ah. Well then, that I can perhaps agree with you on. But I don't think it's such an extreme difference that you can't really boil both parties down to the one primal "I want to have sex" urge. I mean, sheesh, give the female sex drive some credit here.

While the female sex drive deserves a great deal of credit, my experience has been that it's more likely to be affected by the "who, what, when and how" of the situation. Not that men are unaffected by those factors, just that they're more likely to be into the sex because, hey, sex!

And yes, women do that too. But in my experience it's not to the same degree. Many women spend a certain amount of time doing that, and it's not a long time, and afterwards they frequently refer to it as their "slut phase".
