Hmm... I was just in Tiananmen Square, and didn't notice any improvement in the bubblegum on the ground quotient. But you never know, I suppose. I expect it is a process that will be oft-repeated up to (if not during) the 2008 Olympics.

What is kind of amusing is that there is one *very* clean space in the square... it is all roped off, even guarded by the army. That's the area where all the pictures are taken when foreign dignitaries come to visit; no one else is allowed in there. For the people, indeed....
