noahgibbs: Me and my teddy bear at Karaoke after a day of RubyKaigi in HIroshima in 2017 (pirate face)

The hot tub has been leaking noticeably lately. I called the repair guy on Monday, and he finally had time to make it out today. Looks like the pump is improperly sealed. It's possible that things will be fixed in time for the party (I'm waiting for a call back after he checks for parts with his distributor)... But it's also possible it won't. Since just letting this sit would very quickly change this from a $400 repair bill to an $800 repair bill, the tub is currently drained and he took the pump motor with him.

Guess I'll find out shortly whether we've got a hot tub for this one.

should this be posted on [livejournal.com profile] disasterhouse, or are you waiting to find out if things can be fixed tomorrow?

No hottub? Grrr. That might be the final nail in the what am I doing on Saturday night coffin. Sigh.

I don't know whether to laugh or to cry. I'm beginning to see a hot tub conspiracy.

Um... It's for circulating water, and part of the general hot tub guts. I'm not sure how to answer this question. Are you suggesting you have a powerful water pump going spare that you could splice in, or is it a more hypothetical sort of question?

Waiting to find out.

I'm suggesting that I have a hot tub water pump from a 5' redwood tub going spare sitting in a storage unit...

mwah ha ha. it's all part of my anti-hot-tub plan! though actually, even if i'm ambivalent about sitting in one, it's a great way to get lots of people naked so i guess i'm in favor. i just end up sitting on the edge instead of in it.

Hm... I have *no* idea whether it'd be usable with our hot tub. But I haven't heard from the hot tub guy yet, so there's a decent chance that his distributor did *not* have all the parts just sitting around.

How easily could you get it out? I don't know how easily we could hook it up to the water and the power, but I s'pose we could try...

It's not quite the same ambiance, though.

What if we just kept on going and added squeaky bath toys?

Getting at it is pretty easy.
Its in a unit at the base of the eastern side of the dumbarton bridge.
It requires 120vac power.
We'd need to deal with interconnecting the piping, which might be the biggest problem - that stuff takes a bit of time to cure (I don't remember how long, unfortunately - it might take more than 24 hrs, which would be really irritating).

If we're gonna need to use some kind of cementing compound on the pipes, I vote no. The current one comes right on and off, but cementing the pipes to random new hardware will be *really* annoying for the repair guy, and (as a transitive thing) to me.

No Hot tub? I'm not coming.

Course, I wasn't invited.

There does seem to be a type of anti-hot-tub conspiracy going on doesn't there? What is that? Weather warms up and everyone's tub goes out of commission. Seems rather unfair to me.

Heh. It's not actually invite-only, and you'd be welcome. But we don't yet know if we've got a hot tub, no.

Speaking of bath toys would you like me to invite the tall blonde guy again?

Heh :-)

Hey, it's open invite!

Kiddie pool, water hose, hot water heater.

Even substituting "hot tub" for "kiddie pool" I still recommend a hose back to the water heater. The internal electric heater doesn't keep the temperature up with the cover open for the length of the party.
