When people blast "neoliberals" (a term which has so many definitions it's very hard to pin down) or "market-friendly liberals," I'm very much who they're angry at. I am, without question, market-friendly and liberal and I believe that, where it works (*not everywhere), markets are a better tool than government to let people work out their problems among themselves.

But I'm also surprised by how unwilling my fellow market-friendly liberals are to support voting with your feet. If you don't like your government, you should look at what other deals are being offered. Not everybody can move. But a huge-by-historical-standards number of us can. And if even a trickle of people *do*, it reminds governments that they have to worry about that.

I'm in favour of governments having as many worrying reminders as possible, as a rule.

I'm not thrilled that our society *needs* a group to constantly (and sometimes physically) fight nazis. But at this point I'm glad we *do*. It'd be nice if we didn't *need* firemen, too, but I'm glad we have them.
