Aspirations du jour
Apr. 13th, 2018 06:05 pmI'm playing with a lot of drawing lately. Brush pens -- literal, physical ones -- are very nice. A tiny little cheap computer drawing tablet is okay, but I bump against *its* limits surprisingly often. I thought it would take longer. A lot of how I can tell is the sizable difference between my skill with pencil/pen/paper and with the tablet. I do a *lot* worse with the tablet. While I've certainly practiced more with pencil and pen, I'm not getting better as fast with the tablet as that would imply. Maybe a six-inch drawing surface, funky plastic nibs and no control over tilt is just, like, *worse* than a decent pen, is what I'm saying.
(But the drawing practice is fun, physical and tablet both.)
As I clean up my laptop's Desktop area, I find myself really hoping that the "medical" section of stuff I'm currently messing with is a temporary addition, not a permanent one. Despite Good Taste and Human Decency, I totally still keep a selection of stuff sitting on the Desktop, basically all the time. Hah! Take that, Good Taste and Human Decency.
The new baby is, of course, still adorable. She'll tolerate me for a little longer at this point - maybe an hour and a half if I'm lucky and she's sleepy, and if I'm willing to walk, bounce or otherwise keep her carefully in motion. I am still one of Those People to her -- the ones who do not, in fact, have the ability to breastfeed her. She is not overall fond of us, but is tolerant to a point. We appreciate it.
The older two kids are feeling the strain, but are remarkably cheerful, helpful and generally good with the younger sister, the house schedule, the academics and all that stuff they're doing. My kids are still remarkably enjoyable people to spend time around, overall.
They're not quite as polite lately. I hear that comes both with strain and with nearing their later, more teen-type years. And both of those things are going on. As they advocate more for themselves, they're less like miniature Jane Austen characters and more like well-behaved but assertive kids. That's for the best.
