An amusing set of motorcycle-racing leathers:

I have 25 pounds (probably a little less now) of dry ice in my car. It should be plenty for the transportation of significant quantities of ice cream. The dry ice place near my house closed, but at least there's a good one in Fremont.

Now I just need to make sure I've got the ice cream and rice candy and other little happy things for this weekend.

The other night I came home and outside my house was a van. It said something like "carpet and upholstery, water damage". They'd run a hose from the laundry room in the basement, up two floors and in somebody's window. Seeing that they were actually pumping water in, my immediate thought was something like, "so they're replacing all that old, worn-out water damage with spiffy new water damage?"

Soon I'll be gone, off having a vacation on a houseboat with friends. This is an event that has tried very hard not to happen. I originally planned it with a girl I'm no longer dating. Six months in advance, still most of the people I asked on the first go-round couldn't make it. At this point there are none of the original cast or social group involved except me.

I find myself inclined, momentarily, to say something like "I sure hope it's worth it". That's not really true, though. At this point it's committed, it's a done deal, and if I get anything at all out of it that's all good. I guess I mean "I hope I like this trip enough to want to do it again, like the last two."
